Xuancheng lies in the south-eastern part of Anhui Province, bordering Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. It covers an area of 12,340 square kilometers and has a permanent population of 2.495million.

Xuancheng is a famous cultural city with a long history. In the Tang Dynasty (618-907), Xuanzhou, Suzhou and Hangzhou were listed as three central cities in the Jiangnan region. Hui-culture, poetry culture, folk culture, food culture, religious culture and clan culture coexisted and flourished in Xuancheng. What's more, Xuancheng is the only city in China with the Four Treasures of the Study, namely the writing and drawing brush, the inkstone, the ink slab and Xuan paper, and the techniques to make Xuan paper have been included in the world intangible cultural heritage list. In addition, Jingting Mountain is known as "No. 1 Poem Mountain in Jiangnan" because hundreds of poets visited it and wrote poems for it in ancient China. Li Bai, a famous poet and genius in the Tang Dynasty (618-907), came to Xuancheng seven times and left behind more than 80 poems in this city.
