Bordering Jiangsu and Henan Provinces, Huaibei is located in the north of Anhui Province with an area of 2,741 square kilometers and a permanent population of about 1.95 million. Established as a prefecture-level city in 1960, Huaibei is an important resource-based city in China and an emerging modern industrial city.

Huaibei has a long history. More than 4,000 years ago, Xiangtu, the third chief of Shang tribe, built the city at the southern foot of Xiangshan Mountain, since then dynasties set up counties in this area. As a crucial transport hub, Huaibei is 50 kilometers away from Xuzhou Guanyin International Airport and 260 kilometers away from Lianyungang Port, and it is also located in the 3-hour golden node of high-speed railway between Beijing and Shanghai. Now it is stepping up efforts to fully incorporate into the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta Area.
