Huainan is a national new-type energy base and a crucial industrial city in Anhui Province. Huainan is the birthplace of bean curd (tofu), invented by Liu An, the king of Huainan in the Western Han Dynasty over two thousand years ago, and the traditional method of making it was put on the list of national intangible cultural heritage. Huainanzi, compiled by Liu An and talented scholars he invited, is an encyclopedia which has contributed more than 120 idioms to the Chinese Idiom Dictionary; Anfengtang irrigation project, one of the four major irrigation projects in ancient China, was known as the "the originator of irrigation engineering in China" and built 300 years earlier than Dujiangyan Irrigation Project; Shouxian County is famous for its 3,000 years of history and is a national cultural and historic city.
