As a city with a long history and profound culture, Bozhou is an important birthplace of Taoism, traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) culture and liquor culture. It is also a famous national historical and cultural city, an excellent tourist city, the hometown of longevity and the hometown of Wuqinxi (physical exercises imitating movements of five animals). It is home to a lot of sages and famous figures in Chinese history, such as Laozi, the founder of Taoism, Zhuangzi, an influential philosopher, Cao Cao, a notable political strategist, and Hua Tuo, a distinguished physician in ancient times.

Bozhou is renowned as the “thoroughfare between the north and south” with convenient transportation. Beijing-Kowloon Railway, Xuzhou-Fuyang Railway, Jinan–Guangzhou Expressway, and Nanjing–Luoyang Expressway all traverse the city. The Shangqiu-Hefei-Hangzhou High-Speed Railway is in operation, and Bozhou Airport will be open to air traffic soon, providing quick access to 35 large and medium-sized cities across the country.

Bozhou is rich in resources with distinctive characteristics, and a "4+6" industrial cluster has been formed. It refers to four 100-billion-yuan-level industries of medicine, liquor, agriculture, and tourism, and six 10-billion-yuan-level industries of new energy, new materials, automobiles and parts, high-end equipment manufacturing, light textile and apparel, and new-generation information technology.
