Huangshan Mountain is noted for its “five wonders” in the world, namely, odd-shaped pines, spectacular rocks, a sea of clouds, hot springs, and winter snow scenery. The scenic area features numerous grotesquely-shaped rocks and imposing peaks, 88 of which exceed an altitude of 1000 meters, with its three main peaks, Lotus Peak, Brightness Apex, and Celestial Capital Peak, reaching up to more than 1800 meters high. Xu Xiake, a great traveler in the Ming Dynasty (1368―1644), visited Huangshan Mountain twice, and described it the best of all mountains in China.
