Located in the northeast of Yixian County, Anhui Province, Hongcun Village is a world cultural heritage site as well as a major historical and cultural site protected at the national level. Founded in 1131 with a history of more than 800 years, Hongcun Village was praised as "a village in the Chinese painting". Hongcun Village, rich in tourism resources, boasts nearly 140 ancient dwellings with the style of the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing(1644-1911) dynasties still in good shape. The layout of the village resembled the outline of a buffalo, and an amazing artificial ancient water system was built around the village. Its exquisite carvings and local architectural style display the unique landscape of ancient villages in southern Anhui.
