"Three types of Huizhou carving" is a general term of wood carving, brick carving and stone carving in ancient Huizhou (a prefecture with six counties under its jurisdiction). These Hui-style carvings originated in the Song Dynasty (960-1279) and flourished in the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) Dynasties. In the mountainous area of southern Anhui, "three types of Huizhou carving" are mainly used for the decoration of folk dwellings, ancestral halls, ancient archways and bridges, including its ornamented windows, beams, brackets, sparrow braces, railings, door covers, stone lions, stone horses, handicrafts and household items. They give people a deep impression for its exquisite layout, beautiful decoration, and deep connotation.
