Wuwangdun No. 1 Tomb in Anhui Listed among China's Top 10 Archaeological Discoveries of 2024

China's top 10 archaeological discoveries of 2024 was released on April 24. Wuwangdun Tomb in Huainan city, Anhui province, was included on the list.

The Wuwangdun tomb in Huainan, Anhui has been recognized as the largest and highest-grade tomb with the most complex structure from the ancient Chu state that has been so far excavated. It has yielded over 10 thousand cultural relics, including bronze ritual vessels, musical instruments, lacquered wooden objects, and figurines, providing systematic archaeological data for the study of the high-level tomb system of the Chu state in the late Warring States period and the historical and cultural developments after the Chu's eastward migration.

In addition to the Wuwangdun No. 1 Tomb in Anhui, other discoveries on the list are the Mengxihe Paleolithic site in the southwestern province of Sichuan, the Xiatang Neolithic site in the eastern province of Zhejiang, the Siwa site in the northwestern province of Gansu, the Mapu Tsho relics site in Xizang Autonomous Region, the Panlongcheng ruins in the central province of Hubei, the Zhouyuan site in the northwestern province of Shaanxi, the Liulihe relics site in capital Beijing, the Hebosuo site in the southwestern province of Yunnan and the Mo'er Temple ruins in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
