The Xin'an River originating in Xiuning County, Huangshan City, Anhui Province, has a mainstream length of 359 kilometers with nearly two-thirds of its course in Anhui. It serves as an important ecological barrier in East China and a crucial strategic water source for the Yangtze River Delta region. The Xin'an River is the third largest river system in Anhui Province and the largest river flowing into Zhejiang Province, earning it the title of the common “mother river” for people in those two provinces. The completion of the registration work of the Xin’an River (Anhui section) marks that natural resources here received the "household registration" from 2025, which plays a great role in better protecting ecological environment.
