High magnetic field is an important extreme condition for modern scientific experiments. In August 2022, a steady high magnetic field of 45.22 Tesla was achieved in High Magnetic Field Laboratory in Hefei, breaking the world record kept by the United States for 23 years and becoming the highest steady magnetic field that supports scientific research in the world at present.
Fang Zhen, 35 years old, is the head of the water-cooled high field magnet team for CHMFL. In 2018, he joined the high magnetic field team in Hefei Science Island after graduating from the University of Science and Technology of China with a doctorate. Now, he leads a team with an average age of only 35 to push for higher records.
